Week of October 2

Picture Day

Picture Day will take place on Thursday, October 5th. Freed Photography will be at Hyde-Addison to take individual student portraits. Class photos will take place later in the year. To order your student’s portraits, please visit www.freedspirit.com as all orders will be done online. A flyer for Freed Photography is attached.

Screen on the School Yard

You’re invited to Hyde’s annual Screen on the School Yard which will take place on Friday, October 13th. This year's movie is "Captain Underpants", a movie about two overly imaginative pranksters named George and Harold who hypnotize their principal into thinking he’s a ridiculously enthusiastic, incredibly dimwitted superhero named Captain Underpants. Family and friends are also welcomed to join in on the fun.  Entry tickets are $5 per person or $15 per family.  Please bring cash for the entry tickets.  Food, beverages and snacks will be available for purchase as well at the concession stands.  Don't worry if you forget your blanket because Hyde Pride blankets and sweatshirts will be available for purchase as well.  So bundle up and bring the family out for Hyde's Screen on the School Yard!! Volunteers are always greatly appreciated.  Please contact Leah Anderson via email at landerson0721@gmail.com

THE GREAT ENVELOPE RACE - Submit by November 6

The 4th annual “Great Envelope Race” is a fundraising effort that last year drew over 332 participants and raised over $18,000 to support our school. This year’s effort, with the theme of “110 years and counting,” will include class prizes -- a cooking class (First), a gardening-related workshop (Second) and a popsicle party (Third).  The PTA will spend over $500 per child by the end of this year and the recommended early donation of $300 per child will help. Still, every donation of at least $1 counts, and we are aiming for 100% participation. Please provide your donation to your child's teacher or to the front office or make it online.

This year contributions will help to pay for school programming, professional development, books for classrooms and the school library, school beautification, curricular enhancements and technology upgrades. Also, your support will help us subsidize the PTA’s scholarship fund (a fund that covers student activity fees, books and enrichment programs for Hyde students in need). We believe that giving to this effort epitomizes the Hyde-Addison philosophy of “Empowering children to lead meaningful and purposeful lives.” Finally, your generous tax-deductible gift will fund needed programs and opportunities for children in our school community.

DCPS would like all families to fill out the FARM Lunch Application. Please find it attached along with the lunch menus for the month of October. More information regarding nutrition can be found at dcps.dc.gov/food
